Dawn Madson-Peterson WLS Transformation Story

Surgery type: Gastric Sleeve (VGS)
Surgery date: May, 31 2017
Pre-surgery weight: 368
Current weight: 329

Hi, my name is Dawn Madson-Peterson and I had Gastric Sleeve surgery. My weight started adding up about 20 year ago when my husband and I started dating. When we had our son 12 yrs ago,  it got worse.

I tried all the fad diets, weight watchers several times and nothing seemed to really do anything. I would lose 10 lbs here 10 lbs there etc., and then reward myself with food. 3 years ago in 2014, my husband was diagnosed with a non curable heart/lung disease called Pulmonary Hypertension. When I had my yearly PAP in 2015, they happened to do blood work and I ended up having insulin resistance, pre type 2 diabetes, polycystic ovarian syndrome and of course morbid obesity. I knew I had to make a change.

In January 2017, I decided I had to be healthy for my family! I made an appointment with my doctor and at that point I was age 41,  5’5”, weighed 368 with a BMI 61. He said my best chance was weight loss surgery. So, I had my first appointment on February 8, 2017 and had my Gastric Sleeve surgery on May 31, 2017. My starting weight after surgery was 329 lbs. I am now just over 4 weeks and I weigh 308 lbs!
